In Google Docs, how do you exclude dates in a sum range?

For example, If i want to add all dollar valued cells from A1 to C5 using formula Sum(A1:C5), and don't want the spreadsheet to add up dates within that range, how would I do that?|||Leave tha formula as it is and just format the cells where you display the dates as plain text. That way they won't be added to the sum.

to do this: select a cell with a date, click on the button that says 123 on the tool bar and select "plain text"

or just divide the sum in sums of ranges of cells excluding the cells with dates

this is the complete function list for Google Docs Spreadsheets

if you can find a function that excludes cells based on formatting, you're good

i've tried with SUMIF - doesn't work
